General

Saint-Petersburg follows Eastern European Summer Time (GMT + 3 hours).

The international dialing code from abroad is +(7)812. In international calls from Finland, dial
8 + national code + area or operator's code + personal number.

The best known foreign language among local people is English.

Russian currency is Ruble, although many people are used to think in Euro. There are many exchange points everywhere opened late, though the course may highly differ.

One great thing about Russia is that shops are mostly opened all week long and have late opening hours. The major banks, such as Sberbank, AlfaBank, Guta Bank are opened Monday to Friday 9.00 to 20.00, and 10.00 to 18.00 on Saturdays.

The electricity supply in Russia is 220 volts. Most of the sockets are standard European-size for double round-pin plugs, the same as in France or Germany. Appliances from the US, Canada, Britain will need adaptors. Most trains have electricity sockets where you can charge your mobile telephones, but it is not recommended to use them for sensitive devices (such as laptops) without a stabilizer.

Sightseeing in Saint-Petersburg

A city of palaces and museums, broad avenues and winding canals, St. Petersburg's short history has endowed the city with a wealth of architectural and artistic treasures. The world-famous attractions are the Hermitage, St. Isaac's and Kazan Cathedrals, the Mariinsky Theatre, the Peter and Paul fortress, Alexander-Neva Lavra etc. Among the other interesting places of St. Petersburg in summer are the fountains. The most famous among them is a chain of fountains inPeterhof.
