Location
Savonlinna is a small and safe town (about 30,000 inhabitants) surrounded by the lake Saimaa, in Southeast Finland. In the heart of the city is the castle Olavinlinna (built in 1474 - 1483), the scene of
the yearly Opera Festival.

The Summer School will take place at the Savonlinna Campus
of the University of Eastern Finland. The campus is located on a hill, in the quarter of Heikinpohja. (See
map).
The Savonlinna Campus hosts the unit of the
School of Applied Educational Science and Teacher Education. The
Savonlinna Unit has a profile which focuses on the teaching of
arts and crafts. The other units at the campus are Normal
School, ADUCATE - the centre for training and development and
the Finnish University Network for Tourism Studies (about 1000
students during an academic year).
